STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

Don’t step on a crack or … Actually, this is a vertical crack. IN THE FOUNDATION. Keep your eyes peeled for tell-tale signs like this that could affect the stability of your current or prospective home. When walking around the exterior of the home and when looking inside the crawlspace (if you can get in there, you should), pay very close attention to the condition of the foundation walls. Stepping cracks, horizontal, and vertical cracks can all indicate potential problems. Sometimes these are easily fixed but sometimes the repairs can be quite costly. Our home inspector will locate and identify these types of issues so that you can make an informed decision about the next steps in the buying process.

  1. Thanks for pointing out that we should occasionally inspect the exterior of our home and the crawlspace for vertical or horizontal cracks in the foundation. When I was doing some gardening this morning, I noticed a vertical crack in the foundation of my home. I wasn’t sure if it was a big deal, so thanks for letting me know that I should have it repaired!

    1. You’re welcome, Amy! And thank you for visiting our site and taking the time to write a comment on our blog. Good luck with your foundation!

  2. That large of a crack would be scary if I were to find it o in my foundation. Now as you said, something like this could compromise the stability of your home. If I were going to be buying a home, I would for sure want to get it inspected.

  3. Thank you for pointing out that a vertical crack in the foundation can indicate potential problems for the home. My brother has been thinking about hiring a professional to look at his house foundation. It’s good to know that a vertical crack can be an indicator of a problem.

I’m glad you talked about how any kind of crack in the foundation of a house can indicate a problem that may or may not be serious and expensive to repair. My wife told me recently that she noticed some cracks in the concrete walls in our basement. I will have to find a good company to inspect my foundation and repair it if need be.

  5. It’s good to know that a vertical crack could be a sign of a foundation problem. My husband was in our crawl space the other day trying to see if he could set some traps to get rid of some mice under there, and he said that he saw some cracks in our foundation. We’ll have to look into finding some professionals who can come in and repair it!
